YouthNK encourage others to Refill!
Plastics and what to do with them is a hot topic at the moment, and one which the Youth Council, Youth NK want to take further by educating others in how plastics can be reused.
Members of the Youth Council are taking it upon themselves to get messages into schools, and to their peers, and hope local businesses will come on board too!
A million plastic bottles are bought around the world every minute, nearly 16 million plastic bottles aren’t being put out for recycling – If just one in ten people in the UK refilled once a week, there would be 340 million less plastic bottles a year in circulation!
By refilling, plastic pollution could be a thing of the past.
Simply by downloading the Refill app members of the public will be able to locate where they can fill up their bottles, and encourage local businesses to offer the service.
Council Leader, Cllr Richard Wright is excited to see what the Youth Council can do, he said: “Their passion for raising awareness about plastic pollution is inspirational. It is something that needs tackling, and if they can educate others on using other materials, or by simply reusing the plastics they have – then I wholly back their campaign.”
There’s already a few local businesses on the map; Sleaford, Costa Coffee and The Packhorse Inn, Canwick Mill Lodge and Premier Inn, Hykeham, Brewers Fayre.
Representatives from the Youth Council will be at NK Fest and Heckington Show in the summer to raise awareness so keep a look out for them.
